Supporting foster children

It’s not just a wine festival… It’s not just a food festival… Calaveras Wine, Cheese & Olive Festival is an opportunity to come together in celebration of the community, while helping the most vulnerable citizens.

Why San Andreas Rotary supports CASA

Foster children are all too often forgotten, shuffled from home to home with minimal personal belongings, facing an endless string of new schools, new homes, new faces, with no one they can turn to. Four decades ago, a judge in Seattle recognized the need to these children to have an advocate, someone to represent their best interest in and out of the courtroom. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) was born, and it has become one of the nation’s most successful child advocacy organizations.

A child with a CASA advocate is statistically less likely to:

  • Stay in the foster system long-term
  • Re-enter the foster care system
  • Change foster homes frequently

A child with a CASA advocate is statistically more likely to:

  • Be adopted
  • Receive more court-ordered services
  • Have long-term plan for permanent placement

How we are helping

Despite the high number of foster children in Calaveras County, it has long been among the few counties lacking a CASA program. We are excited to welcome the newly established Calaveras CASA, and to help them help our area foster children.

As a new organization with startup expenses, CASA has minimal funds to help children with things like school supplies, tutoring, and extracurricular activities. San Andreas Rotary will donate a portion of proceeds from every ticket to CASA Donations from the Calaveras Wine, Cheese & Olive Festival will NOT be used toward administrative costs. This money will be used for direct program expenses, to help the children.

Are you ready to help CASA get off to a great start in our community, while enjoying an evening of fabulous food, fine wine, local art, and live music? If so, get your tickets now before they are all gone! You can purchase online, or buy them locally in Valley Springs at La Contenta, or in San Andreas at Country Cliff’s or Baker Acre.
